A History of Service and Dedication

In 1976, members of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg had received word that the elderly residents of the Home for the Aged in Greensburg would be discharged due to costly building changes required to meet state safety regulations.

The Redstone Presbytery has a history of ministering to the needs of the older adults as part of their mission function in the church. Word spread within the Presbytery and soon there was a large group of caring individuals devoted to seeing that those residents who had been uprooted would join other seniors in a new home to be built by the Presbytery.

For the next two years, this dedicated group pursued its goal. Its plan culminated in the construction of a new facility, which would then be called the Greensburg Home of the Presbytery of Redstone. The volunteer planners persevered from initial ground-breaking to the dedication ceremonies, which welcomed the new facility’s first residents on February 18, 1980. The mission of this new home was to provide care to older adults in need and provide benevolent care to residents who outlived their financial resources.

In 1991, the Home’s board structure was reorganized, and the corporate name was later changed to Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare, whose purpose was to govern the organization. This new structure provided legal safeguards for the Redstone Presbytery and its support churches, while empowering the corporation to prepare for its future.

Today, under the name Redstone Highlands, the mission of service to provide quality care and expanded supportive housing options continues. On December 28, 2001 a second Redstone Highlands community opened its doors to residents in North Huntingdon. Senior apartments, personal care and dementia care were made available to meet the growing needs of that community. On May 6, 2002, a third community, offering similar services opened in Murrysville. The expansion of Redstone Highlands is reflective of its mission to offer high quality services to the changing needs of the community.

Strong ties bind Redstone Highlands to the Presbytery as one of its central mission commitments. By faith and prayer, these communities have come into being and have become beautiful places in which to live and work. A cornerstone of the mission for Redstone Presbyterian SeniorCare is that all who enter a Redstone Highlands community feel the mutual respect each person has for the other, be that person a resident, a volunteer or a member of the staff.
